SANDRA HYATT: MEMORIAL TRUSTHi all,
Any of you who either knew our mate Sandra Hyatt from our RWNZ Auckland chapter meetings, had met her at a conference, or had read one of her books, will know she was a very special lady–and not just because of those wild corkscrew curls of hers *g*. She was always generous with her advice and sharing what she’d learned about the business, and I loved chatting with her over a drink at the Thirsty Whale after our chapter meetings, sharing the ups and downs of being a writer. So, as you can imagine, when she passed away suddenly in August over the weekend of the RWNZ conference, we were all gutted.
When someone so young and so full of promise passes away, it’s a hard thing to deal with. And even after you say goodbye, you kind of feel helpless, like there’s nothing you can do except remember what a fantastic person she was, and how lucky and privileged you were to know her. So I’m thrilled that Sandra’s family have come up with a way that she’ll not only be remembered, but she’ll continue to help other romance writers achieve their dreams, like she achieved hers.

Sandra met and got to know many overseas writers, authors and fans during she conferences she’s attended throughout her writing career, and her family have asked that we all help get the word out. So if you would please forward this link to all your social networks, that would be much appreciated.
What a fabulous legacy for a wonderful lady.

Sandra’s family have set up a Memorial Trust:
“Because so many have been touched by Sandra’s life, either personally or through reading her wonderful books, her family has set up a trust to continue her legacy of generosity and kindness by furthering the career of an emerging writer.
Money raised by the Trust will form an annual education grant, awarded to an aspiring NZ-based romance writer to enable them to attend a national or international writers conference, to improve their craft and progress their writing goals.”

A wonderful post, Maree. It brought a tear to my eye. Long live the memory of Sandra. :-)
So very sad, Maree. Yet another reminder of why we have to live life every moment and cherish our loved ones each and every day.
Such a beautiful talent, loved by so many. Thanks for showing us how we can help her positive spirit continue to shine here on Earth.
