I have a temporary house guest. He's really not much trouble. In fact, if I didn't make a point of going to look for him I might not see him for days on end. His name is Sammy, and he has four legs, a long tail and whiskers. You guessed it - he's a cat. At the moment, he's a rather depressed cat because his leg hurts and he thinks he's been deserted. You see, Sammy had to have surgery to remove a tumor on his leg, and his people felt that a house full of toddlers might not understand that he had to sit quietly and let it heal. (the oldest of the three children is four years old) So, until the stitches are out, Sammy has been banished to Grandma's house. That would be me.
Sammy is one of those cuddly cats that is content to sit on a lap and purr for hours on end. (Unlike my anti-social cat) He doesn't go outside and prowl the yard in the hopes of starting a fight with the neighbours cat. (Again, unlike my cat) He is very sweet and my grandchildren adore him. He sleeps on the four-year old's bed every night. Well, he does when he's not stuck living with me.
Sammy was one of those strays you sometimes hear about. He showed up at my son's house a couple of years ago, and the children just kept letting him into the house. He never left, so now he's theirs. All you have to do is watch the toddler's faces light up when they come over to visti him and fuss over him to see how important he is to them. Sometimes pets can be expensive, but can you imagine a world without them? I can't.

That kitty pic really reminds me of my cat that ran away over a year ago. She was a girl (hence the 'she') named Matilda. But I've got pics of her in the bucket hat too ;)
I miss her :(
Aw, Poor Sammy. In general I'm a dog person, but he looks sweet!
Aww. I hope Sammy gets better soon and back to his toddlers. :)
My cat thinks she's a dog. She boxes with the Newfoundlands across the street, coyotes, and other various wildlife and wins. She was feral and had just come into the shelter. But she promptly stuck her face in my husband's armpit and was content to stay there and purr. Needless to say, she's the one who came home with us. :)
LOL! Cats truly do pick their owners, don't they? You can just see Sammy thinking "This is NOT the house I chose!" He should be getting the stitches out on Wednesday and then he can go home.
Awww, Anne, what a sweet baby. And what a great gramma you are to do nurse duty. My cat is of the antisocial variety, too. Well, unless it's three in the morning. Then I'm suddenly her new best friend. All fourteen pounds of her dead center on my chest, demanding I pet her or else.
I love every second of it! :)
