I'm going through edits with DEMON right now and I've had quite a few people ask me what it's like.
First of all, it's humbling. When you first open up the document and see all those changes, it can be disheartening. Like, omg, did I really suck that much? No, you don't. It's not that you suck, it's just a little intimidating at first. But if you know your story, know your characters, it's not hard at all. Once you get started, you realize all that red (or purple in my case, my TC is set to purple) is just a whole bunch of little tweaks.
There were several of the changes that after I went over them, a light bulb went on and I knew it was better than what had been there before; tighter, stronger, more powerful. My editor gets my humor and my voice, so it's more like we're working together to make my book better. The editor isn't the enemy, as some writers believe.
Another question about the edits were if I felt comfortable to say if I didn't agree with a change or I wanted to word it a different way. Yes, yes and more yes. It's my book. Again, see above. We're working together, it's a partnership to put out the best quality product we can.
So far, I've learned a lot and I'm looking forward to the next round of edits.
If anyone has any more questions feel free to ask me.

Happy editing Saranna. Can't wait to read the finished product.
Thanks! It's been fun, actually. I'm learning a lot. :)
((((Hugs)))) Those revisions and edits can be daunting. I'm so glad you're putting a positive spin on what is meant to be a positive process. Killing our babies is so hard sometimes. Here's my question. Getting nervous yet, or excited? Both?
Liane- It is positive, really. Sometimes, you just have to beat them. LOL.
Um, both. Totally both. I'm worried if people will like it, if they'll buy it. But I am so thrilled to know I am going to see it on shelves next to others I've admired for so long.
This was great to read after I was just on the editor end the last couple days with my writing buddy. Now he gets a shot at me for the next couple weeks. UH OH!!
W.J.- LOL! I'm sure he was thankful for your red pen just as you will be for his.
How's THE COURIER coming along? What are you working on now?
Oh, chugging along on editing The Courier. I got a little board with it so I started writing a serial vampire novel with a long time friend. It's titled Bloodleggers and we just released the first part on Blood Reads today.
So are they going to release your book in a Kindle version?
Saranna, how exciting! Bet it's seeming very "real" now, right? And hey, it's a process. Especially when it gets down to the nitty gritty of grammar and punctuation points.... especially if your editor and your copyeditor have differing views, LOL.
