Soundtracks

I love all kinds of music. I'm not one of those people who knows names of every band and every song, but I know what I like. When I'm starting a new story, I usually have a 'soundtrack' of sorts. I listened to a lot of Fergie and Shakira when I wrote Trust No One. For my current WIP, titled Retribution, I finally finished my 'official' soundtrack.

1. She Wolf - Shakira
2. Encanto Natural - Palomino Diaz
3. Dejame Tocar - Correa Bros. & Amy Bell
4. Mariposas - Ilona
5. Please Don't Leave Me - Pink
6. New Divide - Linkin Park
7. The Way I Rock - Beau Black
8. La Belle et le Bad Boy - MC Solaar
9. Carry on Wayward Son - Kansas
10. Second Chance - Shinedown

Each song reminds me of a different part of the novel. I love how a song can put you in a certain mood almost instantly. I might add songs to this soundtrack but for now it's perfect. What about all you writers out there, do you listen to music while writing? And readers, what song has the ability to put a smile on your face instantly? For me, it's pretty much anything by Shakira. The woman is a little eccentric but she's got so much passion and it shows in every note she belts out. I was lucky enough to make it to one of her concerts a few years ago and I keep praying she comes back to my city!

I love music while I'm writing too - but I don't think I've heard any of Shakira's stuff, other then the older radio top 40.
I'll have to check her out.

I love making a soundtrack for my books! Usually I pair a song with a specific character, though. It pops me into their heads as soon as I hear it. Shakira's one of my faves, as my belly dance performing group did a couple routines to her music over the last few shows.

I think using a soundtrack is one of the best tools to capitalize on your creative juices. A certain song becomes like a "smell memory". You know, when you smell baking cookies you instantly think of your mom, etc. Having a certain set of songs for each project will instantly trigger that plotline and its characters.

Absolutely! My last book came to me almost entirely through songs, so a soundtrack is a *must!* And now I must go find She Wolf--sounds very interesting!

OMG, the only "music" I write to is the hum of my computer harddrive! When the kids come home and turn on the music channel, if it's really loud I find that I've stopped typing, hands paused over the keyboard, trying to make out the lyrics. All it does is distract me! Must be my age, as I used to work with the radio going but can't at all now. (And if you want to find out my age, you'll have to friend me on facebook and take a squiz at my profile, LOL.)

I LOVE your soundtrack picks, but you know, I have to write in silence. I think because I always have kids here, and w/ the boys neurological difficulties, I need to be able to hear the slightest peep. If music is playing, I just can't relax. And we won't even get into my ADHD issues LOL.
