I'm a little late posting because I completely forgot today was Wednesday. All morning I've been running around under the assumption that it was Tuesday. I'm leaving on vacation this weekend and have a ton of stuff to do before then and now I realize I have one day less than I thought to get everything accomplished!I apologize for being hideously unprepared so today we're going to chat about the only thing on my mind. Vacation! Before I got married my sister and I took off a month and backpacked around Ireland. This probably ranks as my favorite vacation because I was younger, single, didn't have a mortgage or many bills to worry about and we were free to do what we wanted. I love traveling with no schedule. My second favorite vacation I took with my husband a year after we got married. Right after our wedding we couldn't take a real honeymoon (he was still in the Marines) so a year later we took five weeks off and traveled across Australia and New Zealand. The people and country were amazing and if we ever get a chance I'd love to go back. Snorkeling along the Great Barrier Reef is one of my favorite memories there. The end of that trip was a little crazy. We stopped in Fiji for a couple days before heading back to the States and I gashed my foot open on a rock. Visiting a 'hospital' and getting a tetanus shot in a third world country was certainly an experience I'll never forget. They didn't even charge us. People just gave donations of what they could afford.
So what's your favorite vacation and why? Where's somewhere you'd like to go but haven't made it yet?

Wow - I'm jealous of your Aussie/NZ adventure! I traveled a lot with my family when I was a kid - Europe twice, Canada, all over the US, but my fave vacation was about 5 years ago. We took 3 weeks and drove out west and did the National Parks of NM, AZ, UT and CO. Loved Utah's the most and white water rafting in Moab -amazing!
Have fun on your upcoming trip!
WOW! Have a great vacation! Next year, I promised my daughter that we would do a two week tour of Ireland as a graduation present. It's always been a dream of mine to visit the Emerald Isle. Now I get to share two of my greatest loves --Ireland and Whitney. Okay, that's enough...seriously I'm on the verge of tears thinking my baby(oldest is a year away from graduating)..I'm such a sap!...lol
Happy Reading!
I've got Aussie/NZ scheduled for my future trip. I know next year I'm planning on a Tropical excursion or visiting Ireland or Italy. I love the different countries and just abandoning reality for a few weeks. I'm good about that. LOL -- Hope you have an awesome time on vacation and can't wait to see pics! :)
Hope you have a good time this weekend. My favorite vacations are both Civil War trips, once when I got to pick the family vacation as a teenager, and the other when my hubby proposed to me on a battlefield during a reenactment. Be still my heart! Especially because he'd rather get stabbed in the eye with something sharp than do a Civil War tour. Ah, young love!
I'm sooooo jealous! Can I come and carry your baggage, Katie?
It's winter here in New Zealand and already I am heartily sick of frosty mornings, colds, sniffles, sore throats and flu. Yuck. Roll on summer! Obviously my ideal holiday at the moment would be somewhere nice and warm and sunny...but not sunny, coz I'm allergic to sun-screen. But warm would be good at the moment....real good!
Since that's sooo not on the cards, I'll hang out till August when I head off to my first overseas writers' conference, the Romance Writers of Australia conference in Brisbane. Here's hoping they turn on some good weather for me!
My favorite vacation was going to Australia. You're right, the Great Barrier reef is fantastic. If you ever get the climb Sydney Harbor bridge that's fun too. I spent twenty days there. I really want to go back. As for a vacation I'd like to have, I'd love to back pack across Europe. Or go just about anywhere.
